THE SEXY LAGOS BUS FIGHT by Onyebuchi Odianjo

A lot of people who frequent the use of the commercial danfo bus in Lagos may understand how this bus fights always starts and sometimes end; it's either “conductor give me my change” or “driver ooowaa ooh” or “shebi I tell you say na here I dey go”…one thing I think I can bet on is ‘fights happen every day on the streets.’ This particular fight kinda felt different.
I got into an Ojuelebga route bus to stop at Maryland, on getting to the next bus station the driver said he was no longer going to Ojuelebga and those on the bus would have to come down at Maryland. Of course, people got upset! But there was this particular guy, average height, slim and I guess was in his late 20’s or early 30’s who kept raving at the driver, “you most drop him at Ojuelegba,” this led to a heated argument that made the driver stop the bus.

The driver came down, took off his shirt, opened the door and said “Oga come down,” forgive me but he sure was one ‘sherk’ looking driver (short, fat and stringy). “I no dey come down,” the guy said, before we knew it, the driver began to pull this young man out of the bus saying “I go wound you, you never know me.” In my mind, I was scared for the passenger because I assumed the driver was going to beat the living day light out of him.

To my surprise, the passenger came down from bus and opted to the fight; “I go show you today! You don’t know who you are messing with! na me you dey pull!” He said. Here was the lanky guy pointing his fingers to the hunk of a driver saying “make I no find you for Ojuelebga, make I no just find you for Ojuelebga” angrily.

The driver all of a sudden developed cold feet, and said “Shey I dey beg you before you no gree." The passenger came close to the driver, looked him in the face, while picking on the driver's left shoulder and made one final comment “look my face,  make I no see you for Ojuelegb,” and walked away.

In my mind is like “Deeeeemn that was sexy”, yes I said it “sexy.” I know it’s wrong to think a fight may look good but hey! if a man can be so confident to challenge a crazy bus driver without fear in his eyes, he should be able to protect the woman he loves at all cost.
